New Features

Canon has been expanding their line of mirrorless cameras and the EOS RP is the best choice for clinical photos. We match the full frame EOS RP with Canon's EF-R lens adapter that allows the use of Canon and Sigma macro lenses.

Like the Canon 90D, the EOS RP has User Programmable Modes. For clinical use, we use the User Modes to pre-program the camera and simplify switching between portraits (C1) and closeup views (C2). The EOS RP also have a third User Mode (C3) that you can use for any other purpose.

The User Modes are also nice in case someone changes settings on the camera. To get back to the proper settings, you simply turn the dial to another mode and then back to the User Mode - all of the pre-programmed settings are then restored.

The LCD screen on the EOS RP is fully articulated as well as touch sensitive. The LCD screen can flip out to the side and fully rotate up and down. Shooting video is made easier with the tilting screen - you can hold the camera above your head to shoot over a crowd or bring the camera down to ground level.

Macro Flash Options
The Godox MF-R76C TTL macro flash is the first of three flash options for TTL flash control on the EOS RP. The MF-R76 TTL macro flash is unique in that it is powered by a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. The battery can be recharged in the flash by an included USB-C cable or in the included USB charger. A fully charged battery yields approximately 500 flashes.

The Canon MR-14EX II macro flash is the second flash option. The MR-14EX II's flash head is shaped like a ring flash, but it is actually "split" into two arced tubes. This gives you the even illumination of a ring, but still allows you to vary the power from side to side. This affords you more creative control over the lighting.

The last option is the Godox MF12 Wireless Macro System with the R2-U Bracket. The Godox wireless flashes feature built-in lithium-ion rechargeable batteries and the included Godox XPro transmitter uses radio communication with the flashes instead of optical communication. (shown below)

Macro Lens Options

There are two lens options for the EOS RP: the Tokina 100mm macro lens (18oz.) and the Canon EF 100mm L macro lens (22oz.). Both lenses offer very similar optical quality as well as Image Stabilization (IS). The IS system makes focusing easier - a sophisticated system measures movement and counteracts the movement by shifting lens elements. If you are taking a mirror shot and you have the mirror in one hand and the camera in the other, you will be amazed how much more stable the image is in the viewfinder.

Please note: all systems with the Sigma 105 or Canon 100 L macro lenses also include the Canon EF-R lens adapter.

Additional note regarding macro lenses: Canon has introduced an R mount 100mm macro lens specifically for their mirrorless cameras. This is an excellent lens but, unlike every other macro lens available, this lens does not have a way to preset a magnification ratio on the lens. For clinical photography, it is standard preactice to preset the lens to a given magnification ratio for a specific view (i.e., an anterior or occlusal view). This allows you to get repeatable sizing so that your before and after photos are the same size.

Given this limitation, we are not keeping the lens in stock. If you would like a system with the Canon R-mount 100mm macro lens, please call or email us for more info.
