The PhotoMed SDL - Smartphone Dental Light is the perfect dental accessory for your smartphone. The SDL features two High CRI 95+ LED panels that have 8 levels
of brightness. The lowest brightness setting is ideal for dental photography and the built-in lithium-ion batteries last 6+ hours of continuous use at this setting. Higher power levels are perfect for video where you are further from the subject. A power level scale lets you know the status of the battery level. The panels include removable diffusers.

The LED panels have swivel hinges to allow you to position them for different types of illumination. The universal mount allows most phones (55mm to 85mm) to be securely attached. The grip includes a bluetooth trigger to function as a pistol grip for one handed photography. This helps if you are holding a mirror or retractor in the other hand.

Newer smartphones have better cameras for this application. The latest generation of smartphones have multiple lens systems and the phone's built-in telephoto lens is going to give you better images with less distortion. The images shown above were taken with the iPhone X using the built-in telephoto lens.

The camera apps that are included as part of the smartphone operating system do a nice job but may be limited when it comes to controlling color through a white balance setting. Both Apple and Android app stores have many camera apps to choose from that will give you more control over the image color and quality.

The SDL also includes a charger and charging cables to charge both lights at the same time from one charger. Smartphone not included - BYOP.

UPDATE Feb 2021
We now have a Cross Polarization Filter for the PhotoMed SDL. The Cross Polarization Filter makes it easy to eliminate unwanted reflections on the teeth that are caused by the LED lights. These specular highlights can obscure details in the teeth and cause problems when communicating with the lab. The Filter attaches over the LED panels and is universal for all smartphones that fit on the SDL.

UPDATE May 2023
