Metz MS-1 Wireless Macro Flash

The Metz MS-1 Macro Flash is a wirelessly controlled dual point flash. The MS-1 includes the necessary programming to work with most cameras.

Many Nikon models have a wireless controller built-in and do not need any other equipment to work with the
MS-1. These cameras include the D70, D70s, D80, D90, D200, D300, D300s, D7000 and D700. For other Nikon models, you need Nikon's SU-800 Wireless Speedlight Commander.

The Canon Rebel T3i, 60D and 7D can control wireless flashes without additional equipment.. All other Canon models need the Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2.

The MS-1 uses 2 AAA batteries, but still delivers 100-125 flashes per pair of batteries.

Canon MT-24EX Twin Light Macro Flash

The individual flash heads on the MT-24EX Twin Light allow for a wide range of positioning to help elliminate/minimize specular highlights on the subject. This is particularly handy for anterior photos which will be used by a dental lab for shade matching. Posterior shots and mirror shots can be tricky with this flash as the flash heads are farther from the lens than a ring flash. Uses 4 "AA" batteries.

Shown below is
the PhotoMed R2-C Dual Point Flash Bracket. This bracket is designed to allow the Canon MT-24EX flash heads to be positioned next to the lens for intraoral mirror shots and posterior views. You can also turn the flash heads out to the side for esthetic anterior views, smile shots and lab communication.

Canon 270EX II Wireless Macro System with R2-C Bracket

The Canon 270EX II flash is a compact flash that can be controlled wirelessly by a Canon flash transmitter. The Canon Rebel T3i, 60D and 7D can control wireless flashes without additional equipment. All other Canon models need the Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2.

The PhotoMed R2-C Dual Point Flash Bracket allows the Canon 270EX II flash heads to be positioned next to the lens for intraoral mirror shots and posterior views. You can also turn the flash heads out to the side for anterior esthetic views, smile shots and lab communication.


The 270EX II System includes (2) Canon 270EX II flashes and the PhotoMed R2-C flash bracket. The flashes and R2 bracket are also available individually.

Nikon R1 & R1C1 Wireless Macro Flash

The Nikon R1 Macro Flash works with all of Nikon's SLR digital cameras, but there are different configurations depending on the model:

The R1 works with the D700, D7000, D300/D300s, D200, D90, D80 and D70/D70s cameras which have a
built-in wireless flash transmitter and can control the macro flash heads wirelessly.

The D5100, D5000, D3100, D3000, D60, D50, D40/D40x and D2-series cameras need the R1C1 with Nikon's SU-800 Wireless Controller.

The D100 and D1-series require the R1C1 and the SC-30 cables as these cameras did not support iTTL wireless flash control.


The R1 and R1C1 packages includes a wide variety of accessories:

  • 52mm, 62mm, 67mm,72mm and 77mm mounting rings to accommodate most AF Nikkor lenses
  • AS-20 Speedlight Stands
  • SJ-2 Color Filter Set, SW-C1 Flexible Arm Clip

If you are using the R2 Bracket and you do not need the accessories that are packaged in the R1 Macro Flash Pacakge, you can purchase the Nikon SB-R200 flashes indiviually and save $150 over the R1 Macro Flash Package.

The R2 Bracket and (2) SB-R200 flashes are also available as a kit - listed below.
