New Features
The Canon Rebel T8i looks extremely similar to the previous model (Rebel T7i) but look inside and there have been some significant upgrades. The T8i features a 24MP "DualPixel CMOS AF" sensor - the sensor not only captures the image, it also acts as part of the autofocus system. This significantly improves autofocus capability when using the camera in Live View mode (using the LCD screen as the viewfinder).

Additional changes include:

- the lastest Canon Digic 8 processor (faster than the Digic 7 in the T7i)
- 4K video recording (the T7i captured 1080p HD video)
- more power efficient - Canon rates the battery at 800 shots per charge (vs. 600 for the T7i)
- 7.5 frames-per-second continuous shooting for recreational shooting (vs. 6 for the T7i)

Built-in Wi-Fi is a very nice addition to the T8i but it doesn't work the way that most dental offices would like. You can use your smartphone, tablet or computer to view images on the camera's memory card and you can also control the camera using one of these devices as a live view remote. You can also transfer images once they have been captured on the memory card, but the camera will not automatically transfer the images to a device.

Macro Flash Options
The Godox MF-R76C TTL macro flash is the first of four flash options for TTL flash control on the Rebel T8i. The MF-R76C TTL macro flash is unique in that it is powered by a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. The battery can be recharged in the flash by an included USB-C cable or in the included USB charger. A fully charged battery yields approximately 500 flashes.

Nissin's MF18 macro flash is the next flash options for E-TTL flash control on the T8i. The MF18 is very similar to the Canon MR-14EX macro flash in that it is also a dual tube flash that is shaped like a ring. Each side of the flash has two possible positions: in next to the lens or each side can expand slightly out to the side.

The Canon MR-14EX II macro flash is the third flash option. The MR-14EX II's flash head is shaped like a ring flash, but it is actually "split" into two arced tubes. This gives you the even illumination of a ring, but still allows you to vary the power from side to side. This affords you more creative control over the lighting. (shown above - image #1)

The last option is the Godox MF12 Wireless Macro System with the R2-U Bracket. The Godox wireless flashes feature built-in lithium-ion rechargeable batteries and the included Godox XPro transmitter uses radio communication with the flashes instead of optical communication.

Macro Lens Options
There are three lens options for the Rebel T8i: the Tokina 100mm macro lens (18oz.), the Sigma 105mm OS macro lens (26oz.), and the Canon EF 100mm L macro lens (22oz.). All three lenses offer very similar optical quality while the Sigma 105mm and the Canon EF 100mm L macro lens add Image Stabilization (IS). The IS system makes focusing easier - a sophisticated system measures movement and counteracts the movement by shifting lens elements. If you are taking a mirror shot and you have the mirror in one hand and the camera in the other, you will be amazed how much more stable the image is in the viewfinder.
